FILTERS, AIR BLOWER, FLOW METER & UNDERWATER LIGHTING

B.1 Sand Filters

Pressure sand filters of the vertical type or alternative shall be supplied and fitted. Each filter shall be complete with all the necessary valves, filter media, nozzles, pressure gauges, automatic air release valve, inlet and outlet connections, welded casing, supporting legs, manholes and sight glass.

The shell or casing of the filter shall be electrically welded mild steel construction or equivalent conforming with the relevant B.S. The casing shall be internally shot blasted to remove mill scale, coated with a corrosion resistant compound and externally primed with rust resistant oxide paint prior to final painting. The method of applying the corrosion resistant compound/paint shall be to the entire satisfaction of the Architect.

The filter shall be provided with pipework and valves to permit filtering to pool or backwashing to waste. The filtration plant shall also be provided with means of draining all parts of the system completely.

Filter media shall be of suitable grade of (silica) sand. The sand shall be at least 500mm deep and shall be free of earth and other materials.

The filter bed shall be supported by graded gravel or other porous media capable of supporting the entire filtering media and evenly distributing both the filter and backwash water over the entire surface. At least 300mm of free board shall be provided to prevent filter media from being carried off to waste during backwashing.

The underdraining system shall provide uniform collection of filtered water and uniform distribution of backwash water over the entire area.

Air release valves shall be provided at the high point of each filter. A sight glass shall be installed on the waste discharge line.

Each filter unit shall be provided with access manholes complete with covers. Valves shall be installed to facilitate the cleaning and maintenance of individual filters.

The filtration plant for the Swimming Pool shall be equipped with a disinfectant feeder system complete with chemical pumps, chemical tanks etc. capable of feeding disinfectants, coagulants, chemicals for PH adjustment and other required chemicals to the recirculated water. Where Calcium Hypochlorite, Sodium Hypochlorite or other Halogen compounds are utilised as a disinfecting agent positive displacement feed pumps shall be provided to inject the chemical solution into the recirculation line. Pumps shall comply with section C.

we shall provide all necessary chemicals for the filtration system during the Maintenance Period. The Contractor shall also provide sufficient chemicals for duration of one calendar year after the Maintenance Period.

B.2 Cartridge Filters

Cartridge filter with pleated treated paper or polyester material shall be supplied and fitted.

Air release valves shall be provided at the high point of each filter. Valves shall be installed to facilitate the cleaning and maintenance of individual filters.

Automatic Chlorinator shall be provided for pool sanitization by dispensing pool chemicals automatically at a steady rate.

The Contractor shall provide all necessary chemicals for the filtration system during the Maintenance Period. The Contractor shall also provide sufficient chemicals for duration of one calendar year after the Maintenance Period.

B.3 Air Blower (Sand Filter System)

A rotary type air blower of sufficient capacity for efficient air scouring of the filter media during backwashing shall be supplied and fitted. The air blower shall be complete with electric motor, pressure relief valve, stop valve, inlet air filter, pressure gauge, and oil filter.

B.4 Flow Meters

Flow meters shall be of the gapmeter type complete with safety housing, stainless steel orifice plate mounted in steel carrier ring with epoxy coat, etc. Connecting pressure lines in copper tubing and isolating valves shall be provided. The indicating scales shall be boldly marked for easy reading and calibrated for recording a flow range of 500 to 1400 lit/min for the Swimming Pool. The flow meters shall measure the flow to the Swimming Pool.

B.5 Underwater Lighting

The Contractor shall supply and fix the number of underwater lights as indicated on

 he Landscape Specification Drawings. The underwater lights shall be suitable for low voltage 12 or 24 volt 50Hz operation. Light housing shall be of heavy gauge spun copper or stainless steel held in place to the face rim by means of a cast brass back-up ring. Face rim shall be of high polish chrome plate encircled with a one piece moulded rubber gasket to ensure a water tight seal. Light units shall be held in place by means of a positive locking screw and shall have interior electrical connections epoxy capsulate. The light shall include a 3 wire waterproof cord of the specified length and forming shell with 20mm I.P.S. conduit connection. All other necessary accessories shall be included in this Tender and the installation to conform with Local Authority requirements.
